校舎内にアカボシゴマダラが迷い込んでいました。本来は、奄美諸島に分布している蝶ですが、人為的に持ち込まれたものが関東地方に定着し、数を増やしています。特定外来生物に指定されており、許可のない運搬や飼育などが禁止されています。

An "Akaboshi-Gomadara (アカボシゴマダラ)" butterfly was wandering into the school building. They originally live in the Amami islands, but some of them were brought by humans to the Kanto region and started to settle there. These days, they are increasing in number, so they are designated as an invasive alien species, which means you can not bring and raise them without permission.

校舎の裏でクロヒカゲを見つけました。雑木林の近くなどに見られる蝶で、クヌギやコナラの樹液によく集まります。幼虫はササ類を食べます。


I found a "Kuro-Hikage" butterfly behind the school building. They are seen around thickets and often gather in the tree sap of Konara oak trees and Kunugi oak trees. Their larva eat Sasa plants.

 ススキ野原でイネカメムシを見つけました。名前の通り、イネにつくカメムシで、害虫とされています。1970年以降は、あまり発生していなかったようですが、近年、再拡大しているとのことです。

共生の森でノコギリクワガタを見つけました。ノコギリクワガタは大きさによって大アゴの形に変化があることが知られています。この個体は、大アゴがゆるく湾曲した中型の個体です。

I found a stag beetle called "Nokogiri-Kuwagata (ノコギリクワガタ)" in the Kyoseinomori (共生の森). It is well-known that this species has a different shape of mandible depending on their body size. This one's mandible is loosely curved, so it is categorized as a medium size.

図書館への渡り廊下でフタスジモンカゲロウの成虫を見つけました。カゲロウのなかまは成虫になってからは食物をとらず、寿命が短いことで知られています。

下の写真は、別の日に、自然探索クラブで裏道沿いの小川を調査した際に見つけた幼虫です。

I found an adult of "Futasuji-Mon-Kagerou (フタスジモンカゲロウ)" mayfly in the corridor to the library. Adults of mayflies don't eat and are known for their short lifespan.
The second photo shows a larva of this species found in a survey done by the nature explorers club on a stream along the back road.

花壇に植えていたカラシナにナガメがついていました。オレンジ色の綺麗なカメムシです。和名のナガメは菜の花につくカメムシという意味で、アブラナ科の植物でよく見られます。


I found "Nagame (ナガメ)" stink bugs on "Karashina (カラシナ)" plants in a flower bed. They are beautiful orange stink bugs. The name indicates that they can be often found on the plants belonging to the group of the "Aburana (アブラナ)" plants.

共生の森でツマキチョウを見つけました。幼虫の食草はアブラナ科の植物です。かつては減少傾向にあったものの、帰化植物を食草とすることで、近年は都市部でも再びみられるようになったそうです。


I found a butterfly called "Tsumaki-Chou (ツマキチョウ)" in the Kyoseinomori(共生の森). Their larvae eat cruciferous plants. They once reduced in number, but now they seem to be increasing again by eating naturalized plants and can be seen even in urban areas.

共生の森でイラガの繭を見つけました。イラガの繭は硬く、鳥の卵のようです。幼虫は毒がありますが、繭と成虫には毒はないそうです。


I found a cocoon of a moth called "Iraga" in the Kyoseinomori(共生の森). The cocoons of the "Iraga" moths are hard and look like bird's eggs. Their larvae are poisonous, but the cocoons and adults don't seem to be poisonous.

タブノキにタブノキハウラウスフシが見られました。名前の通り、タブノキの葉の裏面につくられる虫こぶで、中にはタブウスフシタマバエの幼虫が入っています。虫こぶの中で越冬した幼虫は、春に成虫となり、新しい葉に産卵します。


I found the insect galls called "Tabunoki-Haura-Usu-Fushi (タブノキハウラウスフシ)" on the leaves of the "Tabunoki (タブノキ)" tree. The name comes from the shape of the insect galls, reminding us of Japanese 'Usu (ウス)', and the place which the insect galls cling to. ("Haura (ハウラ)" means the back of leaves in Japanese.) The larva of the gall midge called "Tabu-Usu-Fushi-Tamabae (タブウスフシタマバエ)" live there. The larvae stay in the insect galls through the winter and become adults in the spring and lay the eggs on the new leaves.

裏道でツヤアオカメムシを見つけました。名前の通り緑色で光沢があるのが特徴です。果実の汁を吸う害虫としても知られています。成虫で越冬します。


I found a "Tsuya-Ao-Kamemushi (ツヤアオカメムシ)" stink bug on the back road. The name means "shiny green stink bug" and actually they are. They are also known for pests on fruit. They stay over the winter as adults.
