"Kikyousou" plants are in bloom around the field where we have planted the butterfly peas. They are annual plants in the Campanulaceae family that commonly grow along roadsides. Originally from North America, they are naturalized plants in Japan. Though they are commonly seen in urban areas, they often disappear from a site after a few years and reappear elsewhere. In fact, they used to grow around the parking area as well, but they can no longer be found there.
