校舎の近くでトゲナナフシを見つけました。名前の通り、体にトゲトゲがあるのが特徴です。普段は木の枝などに擬態して見つけるのが難しいですが、このときはコンクリートの上にいて、目立っていました。


I found a stick insect called "Togenanafushi (トゲナナフシ)" by the school building. The word "toge (トゲ)" in its name means "spine" and they are literally spiny. They usually mimic branches and it is hard to find them, but this time the insect was on the concrete floor so it was outstanding.

オークヒルでムラサキシジミを見つけました。普通種ですが、翅は光沢のある青紫で美しいです。手元の図鑑によると、越冬前に翅を広げて日光浴をするとあるので、この個体はこのあと越冬するのかもしれません。


I found a "murasakishijimi (ムラサキシジミ)" butterfly in the Oak Hill. Although they are a common species, their wings are metallic violet and beautiful. My reference book says that they bathe in the sun before the winter, so this one may be going to prepare itself for staying over the winter.

講堂の壁にヒナカマキリがとまっていました。その名の通り、2cmにも満たない小さなカマキリです。成虫でも翅が小さいため、まるで、幼虫のように見えます。アリなどの小さい昆虫を捕らえて食べているようです。


I found a "Hinakamakiri (ヒナカマキリ)" on the wall of the auditorium. As the name suggest, it is a small praying mantis. The body is less than 2 cm long. They have small wings, so they look like larvae, even when they are adults. It is said they catch and eat small bugs like ants.

ススキ野原でタンザワフキバッタを見つけました。フキバッタの仲間は成虫でも翅が短いため、長い距離を移動することができず、地域ごとに種の分化が進んでいると言われています。和名は神奈川県の丹沢山地にちなんでつけられていますが、関東から伊豆半島にかけて分布しています。


I found a "Tanzawafukibatta (タンザワフキバッタ)" grasshopper in the Japanese pampas grass field. The grasshoppers in this "fukibatta" group have too short wings to fly even when they are adults. It is said they have been differentiated into various species based on where they live. Although the name comes from the Tanzawa Mountains in Kanagawa prefecture, they live in from the Kanto district to the Izu peninsula.

ススキ野原でホシホウジャクを見つけました。空中でホバリングをしながら蜜を吸う、スズメガの仲間です。幼虫の食草はヘクソカズラです。


I found a "Hoshihoujaku (ホシホウジャク)" moth in the Japanese pampas grass field. This species is a hawk moth that sucks nectar of flowers while hovering. The host plant of their larva is the "Hekusokazura (ヘクソカズラ)" plant.

共生の森でモンキアゲハを見つけました。９０～１１０mmほどの大型のチョウです。関東以南で見られますが、近年分布を北へ広げているようです。この写真ではほとんど隠れてしまっていますが、和名は後翅にある黄白斑に由来します。


I found this butterfly called "Monkiageha(モンキアゲハ)" in the Kyoseinomori-Forest(共生の森). They are a kind of large butterfly that are from 90mm to 110mm long. They live in the Kanto Region or other places to the south of Kanto. However, these years they are expanding their habitat to the north. The name comes from the yellowish white patterns on their hind wings, although the patterns hide under the fore wings in this photo.

校舎の壁にノコギリカミキリがとまっていました。ここには外灯があり、夜のうちに様々な昆虫が集まってきます。和名は、ギザギザのある触覚に由来します。針葉樹から広葉樹まで幅広い木材を餌とします。


I found this long-horned beetle called "Nokogirikamikiri(ノコギリカミキリ)" on the wall of our school building. During the night, many kinds of insects come to the outside lights of school building . "Nokogiri(ノコギリ)" in its name means "saw" and it comes from their sawtooth-like jagged antennae. Their larvae eat wide variety of trees from conifers to broadleaf trees.

ススキ野原にツノトンボがいました。名前は長い触覚とトンボのような見た目のからだに由来しています。トンボと名前がついていますが、トンボよりもウスバカゲロウに近い仲間です。飛び方もトンボに比べるとぎこちなく、バサバサという感じで飛びます。


I found this "tsunotonbo(ツノトンボ)" in the Japannese grass field. The name "tsunotonbo" comes from its long antennae and its body that looks like a dragonfly. Although it has "tonbo(トンボ)" in its name, which means "dragonfly", it does not belong to a group of dragonflies but belongs to a group of antlions. Tsunotonbo fly loudly and stiffly compared to dragonflies.

クヌギの樹液にムナビロオオキスイが来ていました。和名のキスイは木吸いの意味で、樹液に集まってくることを表していると思われます。体は銅色の金属光沢があり綺麗です。ヨツボシオオキスイととても良く似ていますが、上翅の模様で見分けることができます。


I found this "ムナビロオオキスイ(munabiroookisui)" around the Japanese oak tree sap. "キスイ(kisui)" in the name is written like this "木吸い" in kanji and means "suck trees". They aggregate on tree saps. Its body is a bronze metallic color and beautiful. There are similar species called "ヨツボシオオキスイ(yotsuboshiookisui)". You can identify them by the patterns on their wings.

ススキ野原でクロハナケシキスイを見つけました。ケシキスイの仲間は触覚の先端が球状ふくらんでいるのが特徴です。本種は名前の通り、よく花に集まってきます。


このときは、2匹のクロハナケシキスイがらせん階段を上り下りするように、ネジバナの花穂上を移動していました。


I found "クロハナケシキスイ(kurohanakeshikisui)" in the Japanese pampas grass field. Beetles that belong to this group have antennae with rounded heads. "ハナ(hana)" in the name means "flower". As such, they often gather on flowers. This time, they came to the "ネジバナ(nejibana)" plant, and moved on the flowers like going up and down a spiral staircase.
